Youths gathered in big numbers to embrace the official launch of the Youth Fitness Program which is aimed at helping youths and all interested individuals in boosting their health.
The program which is in line with the National Physical Activity Day launched by the President last year, focuses on informing the youths about the importance of physical activity, its relevance in preventing Non- Communicable Diseases and keeping healthy.
Many youths are irresponsible with their lifestyles (take a lot of alcohol, smoking, use of drugs, poor diet, lack of medical check ups) which has escalated the rate at which non- communicable diseases are affecting the youthful population. The good news is that Non- Communicable diseases are easy to prevent. One simply has to change lifestyles, exercise and eat well. The increase in cases of cancer, diabetes, heart diseases is because people eat too much and are not physically active.
The event was graced by the presence of Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira as guest of honour, Dr. Mutungi who is the acting Commissioner non-communicable diseases in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Lule Tefeero the Diocesan Youth Secretary, Rev. Abraham Lubega Kisakye the Diocesan trainer, Rev. Stephen Lumu of Namayumba Parish among other leaders.
