Hallelujah this Easter season for the year 2019. We thank God this far He has brought us. This Easter season I request you to ponder over what he told his disciples after resurrection, “Peace be with you.” John 20:19
According to the prophecy concerning the birth of Christ, He was to be the Prince of peace, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Christ in his teaching showed that there is peace he bestows upon his people, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
Brethren, as we celebrate this Easter there are some key issues I considered perturbing in the country.
Let us look at those things which have caused turbulence in our minds but more so to focus on the success of our Lord even to the sting of death and the chill of the tomb. Much as we have storms of life we should reminisce the Words of our Savior which carry more meaning, “Peace be with you.”
In Uganda there are many unexplained killings being committed against the indigenous immediately after which investigation are embarked on with no forthcoming reports. That bothers us. There is rampant stealing of small to huge amounts of money. Fraudulent land grabbing through fake paper work which fulfills the saying that “Land matters are a death snare.” This gives us no peace.
Cyber crime is on the rise, where by people misuse it using foul language, slander, backstab others after which they are found guilty of perjury. People of high profile are profaned some end up losing their jobs. This fuels rebellion and lack mutual trust. There is hypocrisy of the highest order and people have the audacity to continue as if nothing happened when actually it’s a trick to keep themselves in those big positions.
In every sphere of the economy there are many abominations. Tenants and land lords rivalry has escalated due to high taxes and demands from their landlords who claim that they did not invest in buildings to lose.
There are many scenarios when the custodians of peace have a hand in the chaos. This stems from the upcoming elections due in 2021. Divisions and fighting for survival, breeds tension. When you also consider what is happening in the neighboring countries especially Sudan the situation is worrying “The Mighty have fallen!!!”
We are lucky to see the connection today and a living testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ the centre of Peace. He went through it all. He was betrayed, demeaned not only wronged as a King but also crucified and killed because of envy and jealousy. He is the only one who can give you peace.
This is show-time to make ourselves ready for our final triumphal procession. Do you know that, He who is in you is greater than all those around you. Paul wrote that, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
Not politicians, nor ill amassed wealth can give you inner peace. Not Mansions nor Businesses can justify your wellbeing not even the Church you attend nor the Pastors you are proud of. Not amassed land you acquired and even go ahead and evict hundreds and hundreds of people that will give you peace. It is only Jesus Christ who gives you peace if you accepted him.
Standing on the promises of everlasting peace we can proudly talk about the good things but also decry the negative trends that elude harmony e.g. Burglary, Deceit, Murder, Injustice and unfairness and self centeredness are the vices plus any other destroying habits.
We stand in prayer for the sick e.g. Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga – the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Professor Apollo Robinson Nsibambi, Rt. Rev. Dr. Hannington Mutebi, and all those who have lost their dear ones like Maama Sylivia Nnagginda – the Queen of Buganda Kingdom and the entire house of the Late Nelson Ssebuggwawo.
I wish all our Leaders in Buganda and Uganda as a whole a Happy Easter full of peace and joy.
Yours in the Master’s Service,
The Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira
THE BISHOP OF NAMIREMBE DIOCESE
