Boys & Girls Brigade

1.0 Introduction

The Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade (BB&GB) is an interdenominational voluntary Christian Organization conceived by William Alexander Smith to combine drill and empowerment activities with Christian Values. Brigade was founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith. BB&GB is the first Christian uniformed organization formed in the World and in Namirembe Diocese it’s under the supervision of the Youth Department with a field Officer as its coordinator.

2.0 Overall Objective

The Fellowship works to achieve an objective of advancing religious ethics among Boys’ and Girls’ and the promotion of Habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self respect, self control and a sense of responsibility to find a true enrichment of life.

2.1 Moto

2.1.1 Boys- BB&GB guided by the motto “SURE AND STEADFAST” for boys (Hebrews 6:9).

2.1.2 Girls– “SEEK SERVE AND FOLLOW CHRIST” for girls (Mathew 7:7 and Luke 2:52)

3.0 Brigade Membership

Members of BB&GB come from Churches, Learning Institutions (Primary and Secondary schools, Vocational training institutes, Colleges, Universities), Communities, organizations etc. Membership is free as long as you subscribe to the objectives and values of the fellowship. For effective training and empowerment in various life skills, members are divided into four (4) sections;

  • Explorer Section- (6-8) years
  • Junior Section- (9-11) years
  • Senior Section- (12-15) years
  • Brigader Section- (16-20) years
