It was a great celebration as more than 500 Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade members gathered at St. Luke Church of Uganda- Kazo Archdeaconry, on 7th October 2018 to celebrate Founder’s Day under the theme “Jesus our Firm Foundation”.
Founder’s Day is a national celebration where all companies come together for a special service and a highly technical parade to celebrate the life and work of Sir William Smith, who founded the first uniform organization in the world on October 4th 1883. The service included praying for the Fellowship of Brigade and our dear brothers and sisters who went to be with the Lord. Rev. Captain Elly Wasswa from Lwadda Company led the service which was also attended by police officers from Kampala, old members, Lay readers and Clergy.
The service included 1st Mengo Band Company playing music to accompany the hymns with the preaching led by Rev. Elly Wasswa as well as marching through the streets of Kazo to celebrate the founding of BB. Since its existence in Uganda, Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade has helped shape the lives and faith of young people into God fearing and responsible citizens who have served the world with integrity.
The colourful celebrations were graced by the presence of CP. Kafeero Moses Kabugo, Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police whe stood in for the Deputy Inspector General of Police Brig. General Muzeeyi Sabbiti who was a way on official duties. Founder’s Day is also used to create awareness of the Brigade activities in communities and this was visible in the community work did such as cleaning the environment, painting Nansana Police Post and a supportive visit to the abandoned children in Sanyu Babies Home.
Special on this year’s day was the recognition of past members who served Brigade with all their energy, love, and ability and left a legacy that inspired many to join the fellowship. These members included Lt. Salasamba Joseph, Lt. Joshua Mutesasira, the family of the late Mukwaya Ali who is considered to be the greatest trainer we have ever seen in Uganda, and Rev. Captain Elly Wasswa. These were given Medals of Honor, Certificates of Merit and Awards.
